This represents a structural premium of roughly USD 350–550/MT (approximately 85–135%) over the Middle East grey ammonia FOB benchmark, reflecting renewable electricity costs, electrolyzer capital intensity, lower plant utilization factors, and limited economies of scale embedded in green hydrogen production. Unlike grey and, increasingly, blue ammonia, virtually no transparent spot market exists for green ammonia today; nearly all commercial volumes are allocated under bilateral, project-specific long-term offtake agreements, often underpinned by government subsidy or procurement support in buyer countries.
Saudi Arabia's NEOM Helios project continued ramping toward full operation as the sector's flagship first-mover, while Egypt, Oman, Namibia, and India advanced a growing pipeline of announced projects targeting both export and domestic green fertilizer substitution. Offtake demand remained concentrated among Japanese and Korean power utilities pursuing coal co-firing decarbonization, alongside emerging European interest tied to green fertilizer and industrial decarbonization needs. Trade flows stayed limited to a small number of contracted corridors rather than open merchant trade. Entering Q3 2026, the outlook is stable, with premium compression expected only gradually as renewable power costs and electrolyzer manufacturing scale improve over the medium term.

Green ammonia trade corridors remain nascent but are beginning to form around a small number of first-mover export hubs, chiefly Saudi Arabia (NEOM), Oman, Egypt, and Namibia, supplying long-term offtake commitments to Japan and South Korea for power-sector co-firing and to European buyers for green fertilizer and industrial decarbonization applications. India is emerging as both a producer, targeting domestic green ammonia/urea substitution, and a potential future exporter, backed by government production-linked incentive schemes. Singapore and Rotterdam are emerging as future green ammonia trading and bunkering hubs, although current commercial volumes remain extremely limited. Unlike the well-established grey ammonia trade, which flows predominantly from the Middle East and US Gulf Coast to India's phosphate industry, green ammonia volumes remain overwhelmingly directed toward contracted, government-supported offtake in Japan, Korea, and Europe rather than open merchant trade, a pattern expected to persist until production costs decline and project pipelines mature.
The green ammonia market remains capacity-constrained rather than demand-constrained. Most announced projects have secured significant portions of their production through long-term strategic offtake agreements before commissioning, leaving minimal merchant availability. This is a defining characteristic of the current market and a key consideration for buyers evaluating entry timing and contract structure.
